

His medical journey began early, with childhood visits to hospitals due to various injuries, instilling in him a fascination with the medical profession and setting him on a path to become a doctor.
Dr Mathole completed his undergraduate and master’s degree in neurosurgery at the University of Cape Town (UCT), achieving his qualifications with commendation. His academic prowess was further recognized through his placement on the Dean’s Merit List during his studies. He continued his training with a prestigious AO Spine Fellowship at UCT, focusing on advanced spine surgery techniques.
Dr Mathole chose to specialise in neurosurgery, drawn to the hands-on work that would allow him to 'fix things' directly, merging his love for neurology with tangible medical outcomes.
His commitment to the field is evidenced by his active participation in groundbreaking surgeries and research. Dr Mathole's academic contributions include numerous presentations and publications, focusing particularly on spine health innovations. He is a respected member of various professional bodies, including the South African Neurosurgical Society and the South African Spine Society.
Outside of his professional pursuits, Dr Mathole is an avid golfer with a passion for wine tasting and travel. As he transitions towards a full-time practice at Mediclinic Sandton, Dr Mathole remains dedicated to advancing spine surgery techniques, aiming to provide his patients with the best possible outcomes.
